The Confucius Institute is an official entity, recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education, for the spread of Chinese language and culture in the world. The Confucius Institute of Florence was born in 2014 from a collaboration between the University of Florence and the Tongji University of Shanghai. This collaboration encompasses, among various aspects, the teaching of Chinese to Italian speakers. The Confucius Institute offers, in fact, courses of Chinese language available to all citizens of the cities of Florence and Prato; language maintenance courses for children of Chinese origin, and intensive courses for specific language needs such as the tourism and business sectors. The institute is also the location of official Chinese international linguistic certification HSK and HSKK and holds hundreds of teaching volumes and manuals available for reference by appointment. In addition to numerous activities within the Third Mission, the institute regularly organizes Chinese language courses in various secondary schools in Tuscany and coordinates the activities of the Confucius Hall of the National “Vittorio Emanuele II” School in Arezzo.
